Consider
a deck of cards for a moment...The Ace is always the best, followed
by the King and so on down the line. But when it comes to Barbershop
Quartets, it’s
possible to be an Ace and King at the same time! How, you say? Simple.
You just apply the card that can make anything happen...the Joker! Joker’s
Wild was formed in August of 1990 when the original four members
met informally at the Buckeye Invitational in Columbus, Ohio and
harmonized together. The sound and enthusiasm of the evening convinced
them to form a quartet to showcase their natural blend. After
winning the Johnny Appleseed District (JAD) Quartet Championship
in October of 1990, Joker’s Wild went on to represent JAD at
the 1991 International Quartet Competition of the Barbershop Harmony
Society(SPEBSQSA) in Louisville, KY. In their first appearance on
the International stage, Joker’s Wild placed 10th becoming
International Finalists. In July 1992, at the International Quartet
Contest in New Orleans, LA they were honored to be named 5th place
Bronze Medalists. The next year they became the 1993 2nd place Silver
Medalists in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. And finally, in July 1994
in Pittsburgh, PA, they reached the ultimate goal of most barbershop
quartet singers by becoming the 1994 International Champions. After
winning the International Championship, Joker’s Wild
was featured on shows and concerts throughout the world. Joker’s
Wild entertained audiences in the United States, Canada, England, Germany,
Italy, France, New Zealand and Spain. The quartet also performed on
national television, including Good Morning, America, and radio spots
across the United States. Their
versions of Cy Coleman's "The Rhythm of Life" and The Turtles'
"Happy Together" have sold well around the world. You’ll
agree these Aces are truly four of a kind! |
