Each
year the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber
Shop Quartet Singing in America, Inc. (SPEBSQSA), now known as
the Barbershop Harmony Society, holds a convention and competition
at which barbershop quartets and choruses from all over the world
are invited to attend, participate, compete, and share fellowship
in song. In each year since the late 1940s, the Barbershop Harmony
Society has archived recordings of these competitions. These
are actual live recordings of the annual competition in the year
stated. These tracks are not cobbled together pieces of studio
cuts but rather pure, unadulterated live performances recorded
as they happened with all of the coughs, creaks, sniffles, whistles,
hoots and hollers that go with such performances. We hope you
enjoy the music and artistry contained in these varied examples
of one of the truly American art forms. |
